Hydroxycut Removed From Market
Texas Hydroxycut Products Attorney
Hydroxycut products have been recalled because the Food and Drug Administration has received 23 reports of serious health problems associated with the popular weight loss supplement. Problems range from jaundice and elevated liver enzymes to liver damage requiring liver transplant. Another person has been placed on the organ donor wait list. One death due to liver failure has been reported to the FDA. Other health problems reported include seizures, cardiovascular disorders, and rhabdomyolysis, a type of muscle damage that can lead to other serious health problems such as kidney failure.
Hydroxycut is manufactured by MuscleTech Research and Development, Inc. of Ontario, Canada. Hydroxycut is a thermogenic (heat-producing) dietary supplement. It has been marketed as a weight loss supplement because of its appetite suppressing effects as well as its fat burning results. Lovate Heath Sciences is the U.S. distributor of Hydroxycut.

Although rare, liver injury has been reported by patients at the doses of Hydroxycut recommended by the manufacturer. Researchers have not yet determined which Hydroxycut-ingredients are responsible for the harmful side effects. Symptoms of liver injury include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or white of the eyes) and brown urine. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, light-colored stools, excessive fatigue, weakness, stomach or abdominal pain, itching, and loss of appetite.
The Attorney General of Missouri previously filed a lawsuit against MuscleTech for misrepresenting Hydroxycut’s safety and effectiveness. According to the suit filed in 2003, claims that the supplement was “clinically proven” to be a “fat burner” were false as research studies were misrepresented to gain desired results. The lawsuit also alleged that “before” and “after” photographs were misleading. According to the Attorney General, one woman’s “before” photo was deceptive because she was recently pregnant.
See your doctor if you have experienced serious side effects associated with a Hydroxycut-supplement. In addition, it may be important to contact attorneys experienced at pursuing claims against the large corporations that manufacture and sell dangerous and defective medications to help you protect your legal rights. Please keep in mind that there may be time limits within which you must commence suit.
