James D. Padgitt is a family law attorney practicing out of the Dallas office of Bailey & Galyen. Jay grew up in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree. After several years in the oil and gas industry, Jay attended law school and graduated from SMU Dedman School of Law in 1991.

Jay is an experienced family law attorney and litigator who has handled a variety of family law cases, including divorce, child custody, post-divorce custody and support modifications, pre- and post-marital agreements, and adoptions. While Jay is comfortable in the courtroom, his empathy for others and concern for long-term family relations gives him the unique ability to seek creative ways to resolve conflict, pursue creative compromise, and mitigate the destructive nature of litigation as much as possible.

Any family law matter is stressful, even the ‘amicable’ cases. Jay believes that keeping you well informed during the family law journey makes for better decisions and less traumatic outcomes.

When Jay is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family.
