Jon Michael Franks is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Family Law. www.TBLS.org He was one of the first attorneys certified in Family Law in Texas, first certified in 1976 and recertified every five years since. Only one in ten Texas attorneys are Board Certified, an accomplishment indicating an extremely high standard of excellence and accomplishment in the field of Family Law.
Since 1988, Jon Michael has been a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a prestigious National Association by invitation only. www.AAML.org Requirements include ten years of practice devoted exclusively to Family Law. A fellow in AAML must be Board Certified in Family Law in his respective state and be recommended by fellow Academy members. Only 1650 Matrimonial Lawyers nationwide are Fellows, forty five in Texas and Jon Michael is one of only seven in Tarrant County.
He was licensed to practice law in Texas in 1966, having earned a BA from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and a JD from the University of Texas Law School. During his 50 plus years of practicing Family Law, he has litigated and tried many jury and non-jury cases involving child custody, complex property characterization and division cases, as well as handling numerous appeals before several Texas Appellate Courts and the Supreme Court of Texas. He is also a Family Law Mediator and a Collaborative Attorney in Family Law.
Jon Michael has held leadership positions in the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, the Family Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association; has been on committees of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, The American Bar Association Family Law Section, the State Bar of Texas and represented the State Bar of Texas and the Commission For Lawyer Discipline as Special Counsel in an attorney disbarment suit.
He is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell, has been a TEXAS MONTHLY SUPER LAWYER since 2013 and a FORT WORTH TOP ATTORNEY since 2009. He has been listed in WHO’S WHO IN AMERICAN LAW beginning in 1992. In 2018 Jon Michael was honored with being the recipient of the prestigious JUDGE EVA BARNES AWARD in recognition of his outstanding service, leadership and uncommon contributions to Family Law by the Tarrant County Family Law Bar Association. He has frequently written and lectured for Continuing Legal Education for Family Law Courses and Publications.
